NetworkIQ

A concept. The screens are drawn to show how it would work.

Nobody left any paperwork. Tracing it is 2 of us and most of a day.

  1. It reads the switch and names every device that answers before anyone touches a lead.

Network discovery reads each switch port and names the device on it, with its room and link speed.

  2. The engineer pulls a lead at a time, and the tool writes each row as it happens.

No second engineer with a tone generator. Sockets that must not be pulled are flagged before anyone reaches them.

  3. Every port on every panel shows what it reaches and whether it can be pulled.

Filled for answering, hollow for no link, ringed for do not pull.

  4. On a dead run it measures the cable to the break, so the dig starts at a number.

A cable length test on each run with nothing answering, given in metres.

  5. It separates what is broken now from what is one event away, and writes the paperwork.

Out come a schedule, a label file for the printer and a report.

What next

If an undocumented rack still takes two people and a day, that is the module.
